New Research Output: Animation on Ethics in Practice-Based and Artistic Research

Much has happened during the past months, so I am slightly behind with posting about all developments. Let me catch up a little.

Since the end of my postdoctoral research project on artistic research methodology and ethics at the University of the Arts Utrecht, I have been working on an animation on ethics in practice-based and artistic research, together with animator Niels Mud from Mud Motion and Debbie Straver from the platform “kunst ≈ onderzoek” (“art ≈ research”).

Based on the “Common Ground” research project, as well as my book chapter “Ethics Through an Empathetic Lens”, in the Routledge International Handbook of Practice-Based Research. Routledge (2022, beautifully edited by Craig Vear), the animation is an introduction to ethical considerations in practice-based and artistic research. Not with the purpose of giving answers and providing strict rules, but to create consciousness and foster the dialogue about the different aspects when conducting research as an artistic or practice-based researcher. It can be used in research education, training, supervision sessions, etc., and is published by the art ≈ research network.

The animation can be watched on Vimeo.
